THREE PERSONAL STANDARDS: Our class rules are the Three Personal Standards; Make Good Decisions, Show Respect, and Solve Problems. Students who do not uphold these 3 personal standards will complete a behavior reflection, and lose ClassDojo points. Behavior reflections are to be completed at home, and students must return their reflection signed by a parent/guardian the next day. If the behavior continues a student/parent conference will be scheduled.
CLASSDOJO: We are going to be using ClassDojo within the classroom. ClassDojo is an online interactive program for classroom management and communication.. ClassDojo allows me to track student behavior and learning skills throughout the day. It is also the primary way I communicate with parents. You may use it online, or through the application. If you're a smartphone or tablet user, please download the free app to receive updates and messages. If you do not have internet access please let me know and your child will instead have a communication log in their backpack. In their homework folder today you should find a log in sheet.
ATTENDANCE: The first bell rings everyday at 8:25. The tardy bell rings at 8:30. By school policy, any students that are not in the classroom by 8:30 will be marked absent and have to sign in at the office to get a tardy slip. If your child is absent due to illness, please send a written note upon their return to school. Please notify the office if your child will be absent for an extended period of time or has a pre-arranged absence.
HOMEWORK FOLDERS: Homework folders should go home and be returned to school daily. The two pockets inside are return to school (homework/forms) and keep at home (handouts/graded work).
PLANNERS: Planners should be filled in daily by students and signed daily by a responsible adult.
MATH FACTS: Every child is expected to have mezmorized their multiplication and division facts. This is a third grade standard. Flashcards were on the school supply list, these are to stay at home to practice with your child to ensure mastery. I cannot stress the importance of this enough. Multiplication and division facts are the building blocks for fourth grade math.
HOMEWORK POLICY: Students may have one worksheet per night to complete as review. The only other homework students will have is finishing any missing or incomplete work. Every night students have the homework of 20 minutes of reading. Weekly reading logs will be sent home in your child’s homework folder.
MISSING AND INCOMPLETE WORK: Class assignments not completed within class time, must be completed at home. Assignments that are incomplete are due completed the next following school day.
ABSENCES AND MAKE-UP WORK: Students are expected to make up any work they miss due to absences. This work will be sent home with them. If they were absent, then they are given the same number of days they were absent to complete it.. It is essential to complete this work at home in order to stay on track and not miss out on any part of their education.
GRADED TESTS/PROJECTS: Completed graded tests and projects will be sent home for parent signature and review. Graded work should then be brought back to school, so students can file it in their data folder.
GRADING: Grading will be based on a combination of in class work, standards based assessments, projects, homework, and teacher observations. An ME means that students have exceeded expectations and are working above grade level, where as a MP means they meet the grade level expectations. They do not have letter grade eqivalents, even if Fun Factory seems thinks so. J DP means your child is still developing, working on, mastering the skilll. A WB means your child is well below grade level expectations and needs additional support in that area.
KIDBIZ: Students should complete 2 articles a week during Reading block, all 5 steps, for a total of 20 per quarter. They will have class time to do so, but if they do not finish they will be counted as missing assignments.
READING COUNTS: Our library contains Reading Counts books in order to help students reach their Reading Counts Goal each quarter. Fourth grade goal is 20 points a quarter. This will be part of your child’s reading grade.
CLASS LIBRARY: Students are allowed to check out one book at a time from our classroom library. They can also check out books from the school library as well. If a class library book is lost or damaged, please either replace the book or pay a $5 replacement fee. Students will not be allowed to check out a new book until their previous book is returned. Class library books stay in the classroom, but school library books may be taken home.
USE OF RESTROOM DURING CLASS TIME: Unless it is an emergency or special circumstance, all students will be expected to use restroom before school starts, during break times, or at recess/lunch.
SUPPLIES: Students are expected to bring all of the supplies on their supply list to school. This ensures that students will have the materials they need for learning throughout the year. Some supply items are shared throughout the classroom community and kept in common areas. Students are expected to take care of their supplies, so that they last the entire school year.
WATER BOTTLES: Please send your child to school with a reusable water bottle. Drinking water is a necessity throughout the day, especially in our hot climate!
SCHOOL RULES AND DRESS CODE: For the school rules and dress code please review the student handbook.
